Appreciate all the earlier comments guys. Thanks.

As stated previously, there will be no long running themed story for this thread but it will be presented in the traditional Supermodelnation 'diorama-story' narrative style. But this time, with various interesting events occurring in and around the new base. The style will be very similar to Ron's Herpa 1:87 The Good, The Bad and The Blue (...man I miss that thread it was awesome![thumb])

Anyway keep watching as events unfold around Evie. Who knows, we may even have another Evie Airshow someday (minus the UFOs)

So off we go...

Daylight finally broke on this special morning. It was the opening day of the refurbished Evie Air Base. All was quiet around the base.
Heavy trucks with trailer loads of goods and supplies for the new base roll past the main gates
  [yYDIwbx]

[7nTcaGt]

They pull up at the Secondary gates
[V5vtbrP]

[GfbMLRU]

They are cleared through security
[CkRGVfT]

and then through the internal perimeter gates
[wCSfMwD]

[pX99OuL]

They soon pull into the maintenance hangar at the far end of the airfield. Note, This was the previous site of NATO's Scientific & Technology Organisation (STO) top secret advanced developments team known as X-Projects Unit. Some had compared the Unit to Lockheed's renowned Skunk Works. It is rumoured that Evie housed a functioning UFO with extra terrestrials in the former hanger here.  Suggestions of the relocation of the UFO to a new underground bunker at the base are denied and information remains classified. The official position is that the Project-X Programme has since been wound down. [wink]
[Bz475PI]

The base remains pretty inactive with no planes, vehicles or jets on site at this time
[HhM2YLp]

The new Evie Air Base looks resplendent in the clear weather
[VB8Mepj]

The base features a brand new Air Traffic Control Tower and Terminal building. Flags of the three NATO permanent states- UK, USA and France can be seen flying to the left. Flags of an additional 5 main NATO states- Belgium, Canada, Germany, Australia and Italy are also flying proudly in the wind. It has a new Apron stand for up to two wide body military transports and beside that is a large maintenance/storage hangar. The former Service Entrance building has been relocated to the far Eastern end of the base and is back to its original use as the airport Fire station
[UsYTnrI]

Note Runway 35 is now renumbered Runway 28 following the UK's Civil Aviation Authority's evaluation of shifts in the Magnetic poles, which is a rare but factual occurrence!![biggrin]
[VFuwXBj]

To the West of the airfield is a new Apron stand for jets and smaller aircraft. Two Hardened Aircraft Shelters (HAS) have been built to hold the Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) fighters that are on 24 hour standby for any potential "scramble" event. The HAS structures are made of internal steel frames with thick external reinforced concrete shells to withstand any possible air ordinance attacks. Two new communication towers with multiple frequency satellite dishes stand tall over the base. There are also two helipads. The base also has a new dual entry/exit split-level car park and a new state of the art Radar station. look carefully and you can still see the old Administrative block which has also been relocated. A new officer's Mess has been built beside the radar station. A military Police unit has now been assigned to Evie and their post has been built beside the main entrance. The old telephone box has been retained, pretty much in its original position!
[NfkVG3A]

Finally, a unique state of the art Security observation bridge has been built beside the Control Tower for round the clock security surveillance at the base
[bETxhe6]

Suddenly wailing police sirens broke the mid-morning silence...

This is OUTSTANDING! Cannot wait to see what transpires. Things are quiet for now, but I suspect this will change.

Great writing! Can't wait to see what's next! The "security bridge" idea is awesome, and may I know, will it be opened for civillian? Thanks!

DB I hope I can spice things up as time goes on. For the time being it will be the usual comings and goings of Air base activity. Very rare I get to just do the normal stuff. But no doubt an exciting plot may get woven in there somewhere. Thanks for viewing and commenting.

Thanks for that RA-96019. Yes the Security Bridge was indeed a nice touch I thought. Unfortunately due to the heightened security status around the base this area is strictly prohibited...but you never know with Evie Air base what's coming next...

Actually when constructing this section I glued the roof down [bawl]. I'm still trying to work out how to get around this "design error" considering the fun that could be had with evil villains taking control of the base in this area. Would make for some great episodes!

Thanks Mark. More to follow but the pace promises to be slower and less dramatic than usual...I think...

The sirens echo around the base as the Police outriders escort appear through the chain fencing
(You know how much I love a Police escort! Finding police outriders at this scale was virtually impossible so I had to improvise and convert some civilian motorcycle figures to suit. As I didn't glue them to their bikes it was a tediously fiddly affair!!!!)

It is a Royal escort with very important dignitaries on board

[QvDgqQ3]
The escort sped down Main Road towards Evie

[pXhzZ3d]

The lead escort car speeds ahead
[ypU5Llf]
It pulls up to form a road block as the escort approaches Evie's main gate

Vehicles are halted as the escort turn in
[e7JJGSQ]
A NATO officers' guard of honour stood in welcoming salute for the VIPs arrival

[Iz8nor1]
They are ushered straight through
[DfCOA80]
Two of the four outriders led them to a stop beside the main terminal block

Everyone waits in anticipation...

A fantastic writing , again Supermodelnation! Can't wait to see what's next? Will it be a base visit, or the first landing? I'm exicted!
P/s: Your diorama is perfect! May I know what's your preferred scale for the Base? Thanks!

Thanks for the kind comments RA 96019. Scale is always a funny topic for Evie. The model is built on 1/144 scale. However as figures in that scale are not readily available I use 1/150 figures and vehicles. Most buildings are also at that scale or what is referred to as N scale (gauge) for model train collectors. However I have been known to use different scales for aircraft at times and with a forced perspective of the camera angle make it visually consistent.  1/200 aircraft have been used in the past and for the story Evie: Turning Science Fiction to Science Fact I even used a 1:400 NASA Boeing 747SP which was very difficult to do! but it worked...just...

Well onwards we go.

Media camera shutters click as Her Royal Highness, Queen Elizabeth II emerges from the Royal Limo accompanied by her husband the Duke of Edinburgh amid strategically positioned Royal Security detail.

They are greeted by the Chairman of the NATO Military Committee.
[h7oRkkP]

Whilst Evie was one of the smaller NATO bases it was considered of high strategic importance due to its location within the UK and its Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) status which is why its re-opening became a NATO top brass affair

The Chairman introduces his guests to the three NATO Strategic Commanders

Her Majesty was then ushered through to the Terminal Building and Control Tower main entrance to cut the red ribbon

After a few formal words the tape is cut to a frenzy of press photographers and cameramen who wanted to capture every possible moment

I have shot several new scenes which I will post in quick succession whilst I currently have the time. Expect more shortly

The new base design includes two new Hardened Aircraft Shelters (HAS). These huge structures house the Quick Reaction Alert fighter jets which remain on 24-hour standby at Evie. The Royal guests could not leave without viewing the new HAS buildings
[6wDZCRY]

The motorcade made its way towards that end of the base.
[Wtq2LgB]
[iAtf0fJ]

Waiting to meet them are a group of Base Pilots, Air Crew and Ground Crew personnel
[WmXJJSG]
[ik0ObQ4]
[3VYTkzE]

The Base Commander welcomes the Royal guests exchanging pleasantries
[bzkZAKg]

He then diverts their attention to the nearby shelters and what they are about to see
[x5bSB9k]

At that point one of his men operates one of the Shelter’s external control panels
[I30qNPi]
[JyjUKCK]

A distinct grinding of concrete on concrete is heard as the heavy reinforced doors slide open
[vEGq6pX]
[p1EWXzX]  The guests are unaware what is about to be unveiled but they expect it to be something special...

I like your way of showing off the new Evie to us. Now I'm wondering what's in that hangar!
