Hawaiian Airlines has operated its final Boeing 767 revenue flight with the departure of Flight 19 from Sacramento to Honolulu. The Boeing 767-300ER registered N594HA marks the end of an era for the Hawaii based carrier.

Hawaiian currently operates a mixed fleet of 20 Boeing 717-200s, 24 Airbus A330-200s, and 11 Airbus A321neo aircraft. In 2018, Hawaiian signed an agreement with Boeing for 10 787-9 Dreamliners.

They certainly got their moneys worth. I know Air Canada Rouge took some of their 767's earlier on.

Indeed they did. In fact, the 767s remained in the fleet longer than planned due to delivery delays with the A321neos and their pesky engine woes.

You have to wonder what the point of ordering next-gen airliners actually is. Sure, on paper you save money due to simple economics of operation. Having said that, are you really saving money when said next-gen airliners suffer from delivery delays? Worse yet, you take delivery, retire older, less efficient aircraft and then have to ground the next-gen fleet due to inoperable engines which cost you money.

It would almost be laughable if it weren't so sad.
