United States Army Rangers - Vietnam War

The US Army Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol (LRRP) units, commonly known as Lurps, were formed in the early 1960s. These elite units were to be deployed in West Germany to provide small, heavily-armed reconnaissance teams with the intent to patrol deep inside hostile territory in case of war with the Soviet Union and its Warsaw Pact allies.

While thankfully no conflict in Europe surfaced, the units were instead deployed to Vietnam where the LRRP teams perfected the art of long-range patrolling.

Fallschirmjäger Feldwebel (Staff Sergeant) - North Africa

Organized in 1933 by Hermann Göring as a specialist police unit for the protection of Nazi Party officials, the Fallschirmjäer were transformed into Nazi Germany's first airborne regiment in 1935. The unit was rolled into the newly formed Luftwaffe later the same year.

As the Nazi conquest of Europe progressed into the 1940s, additional regiments were raised and formed into the newly minted 7th Flieger Division. Throughout the duration of the war, all Fallschirmjäer units were under the command of Generaloberst Kurt Student.

The Fallschirmjäer operated in nearly every theater of war in which Nazi Germany was involved, and was considered to be amongst Adolf Hitler's favorite soldiers.

Pictured here in North Africa, this Fallschirmjäger Feldwebel has taken a respite from the intense fighting to enjoy a fresh Eckstein Cigarette

Kriegsmarine Matrosengefreiter  - North Atlantic

Founded in 1935, The Kriegsmarine had 1,500,000 personnel in service during the war (1939-1945). Its ranks served aboard modern warships which were fast, well-armed, and well-armored. The Kriegsmarine grew in strength through some extent by concealment, but additionally by outright violating the terms set forth after World War I and flaunting the fact for all to see.

Whether serving on the surface or beneath the waves, the men of the Kriegsmarine gave their all for the Fatherland. Seen here in port awaiting deployment, this Matrosengefreiter (Seaman Apprentice) fears no one.
